At the moment, the enemies of an open society, free speech, basic hospitality towards friends and allies are rejoicing because President Donald Trump has cancelled his planned visit to the UK.
Cries of ‘Yes we won’ are heard in offices and media rooms throughout the country. Smirking ‘activists’ and protesters are thinking that their insolent campaign of intimidation and the ‘not welcome’ chorus caused the result.
But it is not true. President Trump was not deterred by the shouting, rudeness, and incivility led by the Muslim mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Amongst dealing with many domestic and global issues, it is most likely he didn’t even notice them. But the politicians and media talking heads choose to believe their own propaganda.
President Trump wrote: “Reason I cancelled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for ‘peanuts’, only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!”
When a politician speaks, especially President Trump, their words are rarely taken at face value. The echo chamber is alive and well.
Their self-congratulations and back-patting are meaningless. Why? Because of course President Trump will visit the UK sometime in the next three years for reasons that he chooses would be more appropriate. All the infantile posturing and protesting will not stop him from accepting an invitation by this Government.
And members of the English Defence League will be there to welcome him!
The opposition to his presence in the UK gets some people all in a lather – particularly the Left, Cultural Marxists, Muslim organisations, Sharia-pushers, Liberal media types, the Open Borders gang, anti-Brexit rabble, promoters of the destruction of Israel, and radical (and pro-abortion) feminists. They truly have a spasmodic, hate-fest time about it all. It is like the world will end or at least the white cliffs of Dover will crumble into the Channel.
But why is that? Because when President Trump comes to the UK, the leader of the most powerful nation in the world with the largest megaphone, he will, no doubt, have a thing or two to say (or tweet) about the issues that most concern the opposition. And they would hate the competition for media space!
Last November, President Trump caused a flurry when he posted three videos on his Twitter account.
Our Muslim Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said that President Trump is not welcome in Britain.
Communities Secretary Sajid Javid went further on Twitter saying: “So POTUS has endorsed the views of a vile, hate-filled racist organization that hates me and people like me. He is wrong and I refuse to let it go and say nothing.” Note to Mr Javid: retweeting videos that Britain First had also retweeted but had absolutely nothing to do with, is NOT an endorsement of BF. You should go back to school.
Theresa May’s spokesman said the President was “wrong” to post the tweets.
Unfazed President Trump tweeted: “Theresa May, don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!”
But the larger social paroxysm goes back to his victory in the USA elections. The opposition just cannot get over that fact and is still trying to reclaim lost ground. They will do everything in their power to destroy his credibility and authority.
Because their preferred darlings, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, did not win they shift to plan B. Not getting their own way in a fair political fight means that they are escalating their tactics to dirty tricks, crude propaganda and even violence towards anyone who expresses support for President Trump as seen on the streets of the USA.
We in the UK can expect the same.
This cancellation has only delayed the demonstrations to oppose him and his views. If the 2017 presidential inauguration demonstrations are anything to go by, when he does come to the UK there will be millions on the streets, with some women dressed up as vaginas (well, supposedly representing vaginas), or pussy hats. This counts as political debate for the Left. One wonders where the opposition will go from there.
The English Defence League, along with many other like-minded groups, will be there to offer a balance to the bile that will be directed his way. While we are not a political party and do not offer political solutions to every problem in society, nor indeed endorse every decision President Trump has made since his inauguration a year ago, we recognise that those who attack him also attack us. Those same people also want to silence us and take the country in a direction fundamentally at odds with our traditional values and culture.
We remember the enormous support America has given to this country, particularly over the last century through two world wars, financial assistance after the devastation of World War II and the Cold War.
Whilst two dynamic and democratic countries with strong historical ties have argued and will argue about the details of any particular policies, both domestic and foreign, we celebrate the wider framework of freedom, democracy and Western culture and values that bind two great countries together.
President Donald Trump, come anytime, we welcome you to the UK!
